There are a lot of games set in post-apocalyptic worlds, but Survarium is arguably one of the best in the list. It’s still a game in progress, but the developers at Vostok Games have created a game with excellent PvP features set in an immersive world. Bear in mind that it is set to become an open world game, and the ball is in motion for it to become one.
With that aside, let’s talk about the gameplay: Survarium is essentially and primarily a first person shooter with PvP and MMO elements. Take note that it’s not technically an MMO - at least for now, but it will likely be in the future. The main theme of the game is to survive - and shoot the other players who will try to stop you from doing so. That being said, the game’s FPS and PvP elements are smooth and playable - you wouldn’t have problems while playing it. The environment is a player hazard. It is beset by “anomalies” which can either give players a tactical advantage, or get them killed.
Survarium’s aiming and shooting mechanics works similar to other FPS games. However, this isn’t a guarantee that you will be getting 10 headshots in every clip. Unlike most shooters, the shooting in Survarium is quite realistic...in a way that it’s more difficult. The weapon recoil is quite strong and the same can be said when swaying or aiming your weapon. This in turn might make you want to shoot automatic weapons in short bursts, instead of going to the “spray and pray” tactic.
To add to its realism, one of its features is realistic damage. Have you played FPS games which make you wonder why your enemies are still moving despite you unloading half a clip of assault rifle bullets on their legs? Well, Survarium makes this happen. The hitbox (which acts as a health indicator) in Survarium does not only show your health, but also the damage your body parts take. For example, if your legs are hit, then you will either be let incapacitated or left to move slowly. Meanwhile, getting hit in the arms means your aiming and shooting ability is drastically reduced.
The customization features Survarium offers can make modern-day RPGs and shooting games jealous. You can choose from a wide range of weapons, including handguns, sniper rifles, assault rifles, sub machine guns, and shotguns. Furthermore, you can equip armor and utility items like smoke grenades, traps, mines, and medical kits.
There are three skill trees for you to pursue and pattern your character according to your play style. These are Firearm Training, Physical Training, Knowledge of the Forest. Medical and Technical skills will further be added in the future updates.
The Faction system in Survarium is something you would want to look forward to when playing it. Currently, there are four of them: Scavengers, Black Market, Renaissance Army, and Fringe Settlers. You can freely switch between factions, and each has its own set of weapons and equipment that you can purchase from their merchants. Before you do though, you need to work for the faction by carrying out its missions to receive rewards like money, experience, and the privilege to purchase its equipment.
Overall, Survarium is something you would want to play, especially if you’re a fan of realistic FPS games set on a post-apocalyptic world. There are several PvP game modes you would want to try out that can make you spend countless hours playing it. Remember, it’s free to play and download, though you can be a premium player and receive numerous advantages!
