If a list were ever made that consisted of MMOFPS games that pioneered the genre and raised the bar for future games to come, Combat Arms would be close to the top of that list. It’s an absolutely phenomenal shooting game that’s been around for many years now and, even today, it manages to impress anyone who tries it out with its insane variety of gameplay features and top notch shooting mechanics.
There’s a lot to like about Combat Arms but there’s one minor flaw in it that holds it back from being truly perfect. The key issue with Combat Arms is the fact that most of the equipment and weapon purchases that you make in it are temporary so you constantly need to buy weapons over and over again whenever their timer runs out. This probably won’t be an issue once you get settled into the game since you’ll usually have a lot of in-game currency at your disposal because of all the matches that you will play on a daily basis but it’s a tedious activity nonetheless.
The incredible shooting mechanics of Combat Arms are no doubt its biggest highlights. The problem with a lot of modern day FPS games is that they’re way too easy for the players since the recoil on the guns is very limited and bullet spread is next to non-existent but this isn’t the case with Combat Arms. This particular shooting game features true to life shooting mechanics so you’ll need to keep multiple different things in mind such as recoil, bullet spread, accuracy at range, damage drop at range and various other things.
Aside from its top quality shooting mechanics, the other big highlight of Combat Arms is its absolutely insane variety. There are over 70 different maps to choose from, over 10 different game modes to enjoy and hundreds of different weapons, each with its own unique play-style and statistics. This insane variety of features makes this the kind of game that’ll pretty much never get repetitive since you’ll always have something new to try out.
Combat Arms might be quite engaging in terms of gameplay but it’s definitely showing its age when you look at it from a graphics perspective. The in-game maps look rather lackluster since the textures are fairly blurry but, fortunately, these textures are made up for by the incredibly high quality weapon designs that look highly reminiscent of their real world counterparts.
As for micro-transactions, players will be able to use real world money to acquire in-game currency that they can then use to purchase weapons and equipment for their character.
If you’re looking for a refined shooter game that doesn’t come with any unnecessary bells and whistles then Combat Arms will definitely deliver.
