Tank warfare is one of the most fascinating military engagements in existence. There’s something about a tank, with its own crew inside, moving around the battlefield engaging one another. Now, you can pilot your own tank without having to join the Army with this amazing MMOFPS built around these metal monsters - World of Tanks.
To play this game, you’ll need to download an installer. It’ll take some time, depending on your Internet speed, until you’re ready to play the game. Of course, the time you wait will be well worth it.
The first place you’ll go to once you’ve signed up for an account in the game is the game lobby. This is where you’ll be performing maintenance on your tank. Here, you can purchase more powerful armaments, more powerful engines and heavier armor, depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your tank.
In the lobby, you can also purchase new tanks to add to your fleet. Take note that there are three types to choose from: light, medium and heavy. Heavy tanks are, basically, main battle tanks like the A1 Abrams, which are monsters of armor and power, but very slow in engine power. Light tanks, on the other hand, are speedy but lack a lot of armor. Medium tanks are somewhat in between.
There are many kinds of tanks you can find here. Even now-defunct Nazi Tiger II tanks can be bought here in World of Tanks. History junkies will definitely love this game.
When you’re ready, you can jump in to a battle. Tip - you should customize your tank first to make it a bit more powerful than the default before joining your first battle. This is because there are rooms that don’t discriminate between player levels. You could end up fighting against more experienced players: tanks that have not been customized properly, especially in armor and firepower.
It’s a fact that newbies get served just a few seconds after joining a server. Be patient, fight more games to earn more experience and in-game cash, and you’ll be as formidable as the others in the game.
Controlling your tank is similar to how you control your characters in other MMOs. You steer the tank with the A,S,W and D buttons to move forward, backward, left and right, respectively. Take note, you turn the tank to the right direction by pressing the buttons. Moving the mouse will move the turret and the camera.
You can also peer into the turret for a more accurate sight picture by pressing the right click button.
World of Tanks uses a unique “camouflage” feature. When you move your tank into a camouflage position like a bush or foliage, the tank blends in and becomes invisible -- until after you fire that turret and your opponents notice you.
There are no Player versus Environment games here. All matches in this MMO are pure Player versus Player madness, tank versus tank.
Give World of Tanks a spin. You won’t regret waiting for the installer to finish downloading because it’s that good!
