Valorant is an absolutely incredible tactical shooter game by Riot Games who, as many likely know, is also behind League of Legends which is currently one of the most popular competitive games available. Given the level of quality of their iconic MOBA, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that Valorant is such an exceptional and well-polished shooter game that offers competitive, skill-based and highly engaging gameplay that’s constantly going to pull you back for another match.
Valorant starts newcomers off in the training area where the game explains the various mechanics of the game such as shooting, movement, abilities and everything else that players need to know to play the game proficiently. There’s a lot that you’ll need to know about this game before you’re able to become adept at it and this is why we highly recommend paying close attention throughout the whole tutorial to ensure that you can master the fundamentals as quickly as possible. The tutorial can be replayed at any time, though, which is something that a lot of players will appreciate.
The gameplay of Valorant features the traditional 5 on 5 style that a lot of competitive shooters tend to utilize and it’s been executed with absolute perfection. Teams must pick up rounds by successfully planting and detonating the bomb, referred to as the Spike in this particular game, or by stopping the other team from planting it or defusing it if it ends up getting planted. You could also win a round by simply eliminating the entirety of the enemy team before the Spike even comes into play and, in this manner, the first team to hit 13 rounds wins.
The core gameplay format of Valorant leads to some highly competitive and exhilarating rounds and this experience is elevated even further by the crisp, precise and rewarding skill-based shooting that the game brings to the table. There are various weapons to use from ranging from close range shotguns to long range sniper rifles that can obliterate foes with a single hit and every single weapon feels completely distinct to use and supports a different kind of play-style. Whether you like to run and gun while charging into your foes, pick off enemies from safe angles or even something else entirely, Valorant has a gun that’s perfectly suited for your requirements.
What makes Valorant a truly distinct experience, though, is the fact that the game features various unique characters known as Agents for players to choose from and every single agent has access to its own set of abilities that can be used during rounds for additional assistance. Some Agents are able to heal and support their teammates, some are incredibly agile, some have explosive abilities that do a lot of damage and, similar to these, there are various other Agents in the game with their own distinct play-style for you to choose from.
Alongside all the game’s other highlights, Valorant also comes with various different maps that have incredible designs that lead to some pretty fast-paced and enjoyable gameplay. There are also two different game modes currently available to choose from and this variety is always great to have.
In terms of visuals, Valorant emphasizes clarity above all else and this is why it isn’t overloaded with multitudes of over the top special effects that would end up obscuring your line of sight. Instead, the game features clean looking maps with soft colors that make enemies easy to spot, vibrant character models that look great and have distinct designs, spot-on weapon designs and some exceptionally smooth animations that give the game a lively look. The game certainly doesn’t attempt to elevate the visual experience to another level but it still looks highly appealing and, by keeping things simplistic, the visuals always remain clear and the competitive integrity of the game isn’t hindered in any way.
Valorant is free to download and play but the game does have micro-transactions through which you can purchase bonus content like weapon skins in exchange for real money.
Overall, Valorant is no doubt one of the most immersive and engaging competitive FPS games that we’ve come across in quite some time and we urge players to give it a shot.
