The Ultimatest Battle is a combined class based competitive arena shooters and 2D platform scrolling action game. The game is quite new as it was just released as early access around 2 weeks prior to the writing of this review. An online multi-player game, players can join 2 opposing teams and participate in team based matches in several different game modes.

There are 6 available game modes. They are: Death Match which is an all out last team standing classic mode. Save the Princess, a capture the flag style mode where one defends the Princess and the other team has to nab her. Control point where each team has to be able to capture certain locations. Double Princess, each team must defend their Princess while trying to nab the enemy one. Arena Mode is like team death match with a controlled limit of respawns. Attack and Defend works like control point mode but you have 3 points to fight over instead of a single location.

The game also gives you different classes of characters called Nubs to choose from. These are: Soldier Nub, the foremost combat Nub. Equipped with Rocket Launcher and Shotgun, the rocket launcher can charge-up to increase the range of the fired rocket. Viking Nub, Vikings are close combat melee type Nubs with shield and sword and have the ability to increase their damage for a short period of time by drinking Beer.

Glutton Nubs are big, slow but heavy with explosives and a grenade launcher. They are very good in blowing up the environment. Ranger Nubs are the Archer class in the group. The bow can be charged to shoot arrows that can inflict more damage. The Ninja Nub, the fastest class and has the ability to teleport are very good in stealth as well as dealing damage. Lastly, the Miner Nub is the builder class that has no offensive weaponry. The miner however can dig tunnels and build platforms and turrets to help their team.

As for the game play, the menu system of the game looks very similar to that of a team based MMOFPS game. You have the Red Team and Blue Team to choose from to join, the classes to pick from and the servers (with specific maps) to connect to which kind of screams Team Fortress all over the place.

Maps are varied and which map you play on depends on the server you join. It will even show how many players are online and duking it out. Controls are a little bit difficult to master though, but a tutorial option can be selected at the start to get a grip on how to play the game. While playing however, the screen can be confusing at times with so much action taking place simultaneously making the target crosshairs difficult to spot at times in the confusion.

The game has a character customization feature where you can win accessories and items for your character as you level up the game and you can use these to slightly alter your character's appearance. The Nubs are actually cute and funny in their own special way as you have to continually have them jumping up and down to avoid enemy fire as you try to get to locations on the games side-scrolling mayhem.

The Miner Nub is the most important character a team can have as they are able to tunnel and build through obstacles and traps so their team can win the game. Unfortunately, the Miner is also the toughest to play due to the absence of weaponry to defend oneself.

The graphics is cool, fun and funny as everything on screen blows up and the Nubs keep flying here and there. The sound effects are just right with what you see on-screen and the music gives out a combative mood as it rolls along with the game.

The games concept may be a mishmash of ideas combined fron other platform games and competitive shooter genres but the game has a lot in terms of providing fast arcade fun and immersion. Also, the game has no pay-to-win features at the moment, which is a good thing for those who are trying out the game in early access.
