Experience an arcade-like tank battle like no other in Tanki X

Leap into an exciting, arcade-like tank-vs-tank combat in this brilliant sequel to Tanki Online, Tanki X! Experience a similarly exhilarating gameplay in the game’s many maps and game modes while being able to enjoy the breathtaking graphics the new massive visual overhaul has brought. With so many customizations and upgrades you can buy for your tanks, you can even build a tank that’s a perfect fit for your playstyle.

Sounds fun? Great, let’s get started! Unlike Tanki Online which can be played on your browser, you’ll first need to download the game client from its website. After installing and signing up for an account, you can then begin customizing your default tank.

To do so, you’ll need to head over to the garage. Here, you are presented with 4 different options, namely turrets, hulls, paints and supplies. Tanki X offers up to 11 types of turrets, 7 different kinds of hulls, and a slew of paints (30 to be exact) for you to design your tank the way you see fit. After all, every player is given 1k free diamonds (in-game currency) to spend on their tank in the game.

Due to the huge variety of choices, you may want to take a look at the stats of the turrets or hulls. You can do so by clicking on “Characteristics”. Each turret and hull can be further upgraded, but if you want to save some costs, you could level up the mastery of the turret in order to get a significant discount to its upgrade cost. You can even unlock new skins by upgrading your turrets.

Paints are another pretty important but often neglected aspect of your tank customization. They are not only used as perfect camouflage for your tank, especially if your tank is designed to ambush other players at close range; they can also be a way for you to attract the attention of your enemies, giving your teammates the opening they need to sneak away with the enemy’s flag or even come up behind your opponents while blasting them into smithereens.

Although the game itself provides periodically respawned supplies, such as speed and damage boosts, in a match, Tanki X also offers extra supplies that you can buy and then deploy when needed to. However, supplies can be picked up by anyone, including the enemy, so you will need to be sure you can get to the supplies you’ve bought before the enemy. Of course, there are also the mines that you can buy and then deploy after turning at sharp corners or at the top of ramps, especially when you have an enemy tank that’s trailing you zealously.

Now that your tank is outfitted and ready to go, you can head over to the game lobby and pick a match to join. Each match comes with a game mode (Team deathmatch, deathmatch or capture the flag) and a map (Rio, Sandbox, Silence, Massacre and Kungur). If it’s a team-based game, you can also choose which team to join depending on availability... after all, we can’t let a game get too unbalanced, right? You can also spectate prior to joining a match or you could gather up a team of friends to play the game with using the Invite function.

The combat system in Tanki X is similar to Tanki Online. This means that you do not only get to shoot to destroy, you can also attempt to force an enemy tank over a cliff for example, or to tip their tank over like an overturned tortoise, forcing them to self-destruct. By playing match, you’re guaranteed to get some diamonds regardless of whether your team wins or loses. However, if your team do win or that you’re among the top 3 players in the match, you’ll obviously get a bit more reward.

In terms of graphics and sound, Tanki X has definitely outdone its predecessor Tanki Online by multiple folds. The visuals are breathtakingly beautiful and has that cartoony feel to it. It perfectly reflects the arcade-y style of the game. The sounds are also very well-designed, allowing players to rely on their sense of hearing to detect enemies who are possibly creeping up behind them.

In short, Tanki X is definitely a huge upgrade as compared its forerunner and yet still retained the excitement and fun that Tanki Online has to offer. If you love or have loved playing Tanki Online, you may want to give Tanki X a try. You won’t regret it, that’s for sure!

Note: This is a first impression review for Tanki X. The game is currently in Beta.
