Engage yourself in a new MMOFPS game that will take you back to the battle fields of WW2 where you can experience the ground based combat of those times.
Get into gear depending on which side you choose to enlist in, get right into the game and kick some enemy butt.
Run, take cover, shoot, ride a vehicle or build defenses, it's up to you. Take advantage of the game's crafting features and help your team win the game.
BattleRush is a newly launched MMOFPS game on Steam. The setting is WW2 and the location will vary depending on whose fighting who. When you start to play the game, it will give you a choice of whether to play the Standard game mode, Death match mode or the Tutorial first.
Choosing a multi-player mode (meaning not the tutorial) will give you a server listing that will show the server's name, it's latency rate and the number of people playing on it. You then get to choose your options from the character creation menu. You can play either the Axis or the Allied side and choose an appropriate country. Remember that this is WW2 so it's the Jap and Krauts vs the Yanks, the Russkies and the Brits.
Choose your avatar's specialization and rank where your Primary, Secondary and Melee weapons will depend on. You will also have additional equipment added to your inventory. Example, an American Rifleman will be able to first carry a standard issued M1 Garand rifle, some ammo and an axe as a melee weapon. A rank of officer entitles you to carry your own sidearm like the US standard M1911 (.45) Service Pistol.
For now, the game is completely free though the developers will probably be working on some kind of micro-transaction option for the game as time and it's development goes by.
The game map is one of those big European outdoors with thick forests, clustered houses and buildings and a lot of miles to run. You will have lots of opportunity to take cover and so does your opponent that most of the time, you will have a hard time trying to pinpoint where he is shooting from as the bullets graze you. You can view the entire map area via the Battle Map option or the circular direction finder at the lower left of the screen.
When it cones to handling WW2 weapons, the game is superb. You'll get strong recoil and realistic aiming (try aiming with a Garand). You'll have to re-load often and usually, right in the middle of a fight just when you have the opponent in sight for an easy kill or right when he's about to blow your head away.
The thing about going up against other online players is that most of them are really skilled. They won't just stand there and let you pawn them. Most of them are fast, aggressive and agile and you will have to match them at that unless you are playing against total noobs.
As the game is still in early access, a lot of glitches are bound to happen every now and then specially when it comes to the vehicles like the tanks. Yes, there are vehicles that you can hop-into in the game but a lot of them have very blaringly buggy performances resulting in ridiculous outcomes during game play. A great example would be the performance of these tanks which the developers would really have to address.
Combat in the game is fast and furious and you can buy the bullet pretty quick. Once you get hit, you will see the effects of the force and your avatar will bleed. Get hit enough times and you will see your avatar slump to the ground (or floor) like a rag doll ...dead.
BattleRush is basically a WW2 MMOFPS game but includes a unique and innovative sandbox feature where the player can build things. As you go through the game, you will be able to collect items. Not all of these are weapons or ammo, some of them are resources and materials that you can use to craft certain objects you can use. You can make items for defensive purposes like walls and anti-tank hedgehogs or even simple tools like a pick-axe that can be used for certain purposes. With these crafting options, one can even build a makeshift base, fort or bunker.
Whenever you find yourself blocked by a wooden door or any other obstacles in the game, if you can break them down, do so. The game features smash-able objects and environments where a tank shell, a well placed explosive charge or even a grenade can obliterate a side of a house. As for the door or window blocking you, just keep hitting it with an axe and you'll get through.
The game let's you adjust your Video, Audio and Controls via the settings options. The graphics are awesomely crisp and the environment really provides a nostalgic aura of WW2 complete with huge trees, hills, roads, small villages, forest sounds like the wind and birds chirping. Sound effects like weapons and vehicles lend to the immersive excitement of the game. One thing though, the player models are all kind off goofy looking, but nobody seems to care once the shooting starts.
If you're the kind of person who loves playing MMOFPS, and still derives a lot of enjoyment in watching the old old re-runs of Combat or the later Band of Brothers and classic films like The Longest Day and Battle of the Bulge, well...this game is for you. Just head over to Steam and download yourself a free copy today.
